U16 Girls "Finalists" in Las Vegas

U16 Girls "Finalists" in Las Vegas

The U16 Girls Elite ’94 team competed in the 2011 Las Vegas College Showcase over the March 11-12-13 weekend and finished as "Finalists" in their flight of 8 teams.  Playing 4 games over the course of the 3 days the girls finished the event having won 3 games and tied 1.  That was good enough to tie for first place in their group, however a tie-breaker of goal differential qualified the team for the 2nd place finish.

On Day 1 the girls opened with Sting Blue of N. Texas and drew 2-2 after having led 1-0 and 2-1.  Later that evening the team played Eclipse Black, a state semi-finalist from S. Texas.  After a cagy first half of play (1-1 at halftime) the game opened up and PA Classics led 4-1 before a late goal by Eclipse made the final score line 4-2.

Day 2 brought very tired legs from the cross country flight and 2 games the previous day.  An early morning kick-off didn’t help, but after an initial struggle the team was able to overcome a 1-0 deficit and win 2-1 against the New Mexico State Champs, AUFC Fusion.  However, the benefit of an early game allowed for a good bit of free time which the team put to use with a trip to nearby Hoover Dam.

The final day of competition saw the girls play Arsenal Gold of Colorado, a state finalist team.  In an open game that saw both teams dominate portions of the match, PA Classics was able to come out on top 3-2 thanks to a flurry of 3 goals in 9 minutes just before half-time.

Congratulations to the girls on a great weekend and good luck at Jefferson Cup.
